Job description:  Produce specifications for, design, develop, manufacture, and install new or modified mechanical components or systems on aircraft. Needs to be technically minded, able to demonstrate numerical and scientific ability and have problem-solving skills.

Job Duties:

  • Evaluates mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and conducting research; applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials.
  • Confirms system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods; testing properties.
  • Develops mechanical and electromechanical products; researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials; soliciting observations from aircraft technicians.
  • Develops manufacturing processes by working closely with manufacturing vendors are required.
  • Assures system and product quality by designing testing methods as required; testing finished- product and system capabilities; confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation of parts.
  • Prepares product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations and meeting/ exceeding company ethics and grooming standards.
  • Maintains system and product data base by entering data.
  • Completes projects and helps in guiding aircraft and Engineering technicians.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Engineer Skills and Qualifications:

Requirements:  Analysis & Design Skills, Presenting Technical Information, Conceptual Skills, Quality Focus, General Consulting Skills, Control Engineering, Production Planning, Technical Zeal, Job Knowledge, safety and compliance focused, software proficient in: MS Office including Word, PowerPoint, Excel,  Autocad, Solidworks or similar CAD programs.  Programming skills and web experience a plus

Ensure aircraft regulatory compliance to FAA Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and other regulations. Control aircraft configuration and build specification. Minimize aircraft out of service time by providing timely operational support and implementing cost effective solutions to improve long term fleet reliability.

Responsibilities

  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change when circumstances dictate. (e.g. emergencies change in workload, rush jobs or technical developments.)
  • On-time performance:
    • Develop engineering responses to fleet performance, reliability and safety issues as prioritized by Engineering Management.
    • Identify and implement fleet reliability improvements.
  • Regulatory compliance:
    • Review ADs, FARs, SFARs , other agency requirements (e.g. EPA, FDA etc.) and develop necessary action to ensure compliance.
  • Configuration Management:
    • Update aircraft manuals and drawings with changes due to repairs & alterations to ensure NKS aircraft specification is always consistent and up-to-date.
  • Technical Services:
    • Provide effective and timely solutions to requests from other departments (e.g. marketing, in-flight services etc.) that require Engineering's technical evaluation.
    • Develop cost effective and airworthy solutions.
  • Support line and heavy maintenance in troubleshooting and providing corrective actions, including repair or deviation documentation for assigned discipline.
  • Implement changes as required to improve aircraft reliability.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and related information.
  • Conduct basic financial analysis to determine cost/benefit relationships.
  • Effectively generate detailed engineering documents.
  • Interpret analytical reports, FARs, ADs and other engineering documents/drawings.
  • Make sound engineering decisions and develop the documentation to support these decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or A&P license with 5 years experience in relevant technical discipline (Structures, Systems, Avionics, Powerplant).
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and valid passport.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of Airbus A320 series aircraft preferred.
  • FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) designation preferred.
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Problem-solving skills using analytical methods.
  • Multi-tasking and prioritizing multiple projects based on urgency and fleet impact.
  • Practices safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Access) and AutoCAD (or similar CAD software).
  • Ability and willingness to work beyond the normal 40 hours per week, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to travel at any time to offsite locations and work outside in any weather conditions.

Responsible for developing furnishings or textiles for use within the aerospace industry.  Apply the principles of engineering to the design and manufacture of aircraft furnishings and associated processes and products.  It is a multidisciplinary role requiring sound knowledge of textile and/or mechanical engineering.
